Squirrels attempting to invade the house, solutions/deterrents please people!?

We have a juvenile grey squirrel problem.

An ASBO's not an option as they're too quick and can't read, but joking apart the little blighters are attempting to invade and this morning I've had to chase one (or possibly two-they all look the same to me) off the kitchen window sill as they were half way in through the open window.

There is nothing edible out on the worktops and I've fastened a plastic bag to the window latch in a vain attempt to scare them off but there HAS to be a better way, not least as the whole house will look flipping ridiculous in the summer!

Hubby is all for getting some target practice in but I'm resisting that on humanitarian grounds (at least for the moment).

My main concern here is that they're disease ridden critters and seem totally unconcerned by my presence initially. My 2yr old thinks they're cute of course and my 1yr old has no idea what they are but if one got in......

...well I hate to think what could happen.

Any suggestions? Cheers!Squirrels attempting to invade the house, solutions/deterrents please people!?
Let Hubby get the target practice, just make him clean them!!! They make a pretty good meal when you fry them up!!!Squirrels attempting to invade the house, solutions/deterrents please people!?
I don't have a solution, but squirrels are known to like mental puzzles: perhaps a trail of rubik's cubes will keep them occupied...?
I would suggest first off that you close the windows. If that isn't a viable option, get a wire (not plastic) screen for your windows. A house pet (ideally a cat, but a small dog like a terrier would be good too. And the kids would like it. ) would help to deter the tree rats from wanting in your house. Remember the old Chip and Dale cartoons? Use that as a guideline for deterrents.
why not this...?

Uses ultrasonics.....
get an air rifle.

nahh, once he his hit he will only concentrate on escaping. a well placed shot will keep him on the ground.

i shot one on tuesday out of a tree next to our house but the little bugger ran off under out chicken shed. had to tip the whole shed over to get him out and finish him off.

cant stand squirrels. on monday morning, i counted 12 in the fields next to our house. gonna kill them all.
We have had this problem for two years. They were living in our chimney.... We tried a lot of things but I am afraid that your hubby's option was the only thing that eventually got rid of them.

Think of them as rats... and if you look at them closely most of them aren't the nice fluffy things you would expect but have mange etc.

Sorry if it isn't what you want to hear....
