First of all, black squirrels are simply a colour form of the grey squirrel. They're not a different species. For some reason natural selection seems to be favouring black individuals, but they are still grey squirrels.





Secondly, don't worry about rabies - we don't have the disease in the UK. Squirrels are not dangerous in themselves, but it's possible they could carry diseases such as leptospirosis, which other rodents such as rats and mice can carry. However, in order to be infected you have to get the animal's urine into your bloodstream via a cut or scratch, so I wouldn't be too worried about it.





You don't need to do anything in particular if you see a black squirrel. Just admire it as an interesting wild animal, and let it go about its business.Questions about black squirrel (UK)?
I've only heard about Black squirrels on TV, so I don't know much about them.





From what I have heard, they're taking territory from the Grey squirrel, which was a pest originally, so expect them to be more common.





I suspect that they'll just be the same as the Grey squirrels, only bigger, black and a bit more agressive to other squirrels.
Squirrels are only dangerous if you're a nut. :-) Well, if they have rabies, they could be dangerous. If you see one, take pictures of it or just watch it or give it some food. If it's acting crazy and has a white froth around its mouth, leave it alone--it might have rabies. We have black squirrels in the US and I think they're cute. How they got to the UK or the US, I don't know. Hooray for squirrels of all colors!
